Fresh Chinese jujubes imported into Australia

Jetbest Group has announced the arrival of fresh Chinese jujubes in Australia under newly established import conditions from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF). The first consignments mark the beginning of regulated imports of this fruit, which has cultural and dietary importance for many communities.

In May 2025, DAFF published new import protocols for fresh Chinese jujubes. Jetbest worked with its Chinese supplier to ensure compliance with Australian biosecurity requirements.

The imported fruit is intended to complement the domestic harvest, which runs from February to April, by filling seasonal supply gaps. According to Jetbest, the imports will provide consumers with access to fresh jujubes outside the local growing window rather than replacing Australian production.

For communities with cultural ties to the fruit, including Asian and Middle Eastern groups, the imports offer year-round access to a product that is traditionally consumed fresh.

Jujubes are noted for their dietary fibre, vitamin C, potassium, and iron content and are widely valued in traditional diets.

By importing jujubes outside the Australian harvest season, Jetbest expects to support ongoing consumer interest and help retailers maintain category visibility year-round. The company said this may assist in broadening the market for both imported and locally grown jujubes in the longer term.
