Australian apple brand launches in China

Soluna™ Australian Apples has entered the Chinese market, marking a milestone for the commercialisation of Australian apples in China.

The launch is being undertaken in partnership with two Chinese fresh produce companies, Joy Wing Mau Group and RiverKing Group, marking the brand’s entry into the Chinese market.

Following market access approval in 2025, the first commercial shipment of Soluna apples represents a step in the brand’s international expansion and further supports agricultural trade between Australia and China.

To mark the launch, Soluna hosted its first event, “Starry Night of Soluna”, on 11 June at W Shanghai – The Bund. Guests, partners, and industry representatives participated in lighting a Soluna installation to mark the arrival of the apples from Australia into China.

Meeting evolving consumer demand
As Chinese consumers increasingly seek premium fruit, demand is growing for varieties that combine appearance, flavour, and consistent quality. Soluna Australian Apples are positioned within this segment.

Grown in Australia’s main apple-producing regions, Soluna apples are produced under growing and grading standards intended to support consistency and quality.

Partnerships supporting market entry
Elliot Jones, General Manager of WA Farm Direct, said, “China is one of the world’s most important markets for premium apples. The successful introduction of Soluna Australian Apples represents a major achievement for Australian growers. We are delighted to partner with Joy Wing Mau and RiverKing Group, whose established networks and market expertise will help bring this exciting new brand to Chinese consumers.”

Joy Wing Mau and RiverKing Group will jointly manage channel development and brand promotion. Their networks across major cities and retail channels will support the introduction of Soluna to the market.

Building recognition through quality and provenance
Jones added, “Chinese consumers are increasingly seeking high-quality fruit with exceptional flavour and clear provenance. Soluna offers a compelling combination of all three, and we are confident it will resonate strongly with both retail partners and consumers.”

During the initial launch phase, Soluna will implement a marketing program focused on its Australian origin, growing practices, and product characteristics. Activities will include in-store promotions, consumer engagement initiatives, and partnerships aimed at increasing awareness.

In its first commercial season, the focus will be on establishing a market presence. The company plans to support this through channel development and brand investment within China’s imported apple category.

Australia-China fruit trade
The launch of Soluna Australian Apples reflects ongoing agricultural trade between Australia and China and cooperation across the supply chain, including growers, exporters, importers, and retailers.

As demand for premium and specialty fruit continues to grow, Soluna adds another imported apple option to the Chinese market and may provide further opportunities for Australia-China agricultural trade.
