NZ has published G/TBT/N/NZL/141 proposing to revoke approvals for all chlorpyrifos containing substances. It is registered for use in AU in a variety of grain and horticulture commodities until 30 September 2025.

G/SPS/N/IND/313 India – MRLs for pesticides in various commodities
India has published G/SPS/N/IND/313 proposing MRLs for pesticides in various commodities.
The notice does not mention what changes have been made compared to the current standard. Instead, it includes the complete standard (approximately 2600 MRLs). NRS has therefore assessed the MRLs for the analytes that are frequently detected under our testing screens (bifenazate, boscalid, captan, chlorantraniliprole, chlorpyrifos, clothianidin, copper, diphenylamine, dithiocarbamates, fenoxycarb, fludioxonil, fluopyram-P, glyphosate, imazalil, indoxacarb, iprodione, malathion, novaluron, paraquat, propargite, pyraclostrobin, thiabendazole, trifloxystrobin, carbaryl, carbendazim, chlorpyrifos-methyl, cypermethrin, deltamethrin, diquat, fenitrothion, flutriafol, haloxyfop, imazapyr, imidacloprid, methoprene, PBO, procymidone, Spinosad, 2,4-D).

GB – HSE -Expiry of the approval of the active substance myclobutanil – June 2024
Great Britain has not renewed the approval of myclobutanil. Please see the details in the email below.
It is registered in Australia for use on Pome fruits.
The decision does not currently impact MRLs, but they will be reviewed in future.

Taiwan has published G/SPS/N/TPKM/622 proposing to revoke chlorpyrifos MRLs in various commodities. The notice and NRS attachment are attached.
There are current registrations of chlorpyrifos in AU, however APVMA has published its draft regulatory decision for chlorpyrifos reconsideration in Dec 2023, proposing to not support the use of chlorpyrifos in food-producing situations except for the use on banana and cattle ear tags.

European Union cypermethrin – January 2024

European Union dimethomorph – January 2024 IMPORTANT
EU has published G/TBT/N/EU/1038 concerning the non-renewal of the approval of the active substance dimethomorph. This decision only concerns the placing on the market of plant protection products containing it. Separate action will be taken on MRLs. It is registered in AU in grapes.
G/TBT/N/GBR/70 – UK mancozeb – January 2024
UK has published G/TBT/N/GBR/70 notifying non-approval of mancozeb. It meets the criteria to be classified as having endocrine disrupting properties for humans and non-target organisms.
It is registered in AU in almonds, cereal grains, citrus, grapes, pome, pulses, walnuts, pistachio, stone fruits and sunflower seeds.

South Africa has published G/SPS/N/ZAF/81 notifying the prohibition of use of pesticides containing chlorpyrifos. Chlorpyrifos is under review in Australia and many other jurisdictions have banned this active.

EFSA has published a review on MRLs of fluopyram

Update on EU MRLs for thiamethoxam and clothianidin – March 2023
The EU has proposed to lower the MRLs for thiamethoxam and clothianidin to LOQ for all commodities. (G/TBT/N/EU/908 dated 6/7/22).
EU has recently published https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/PDF/?uri=CELEX:32023R0334, advising that the amended MRLs will apply from 7th March, 2026.
EFSA review – thiacloprid– March 2023
EFSA has proposed to lower the existing EU MRL (derived from the CXL) for thiacloprid in peaches. EFSA recommends lowering the existing MRL at 0.5 mg/kg to level that does not lead to consumer health risk.

The AU MRL in stone fruits is set at 2 mg/kg.

EFSA tebufenpyrad – February 2023
EFSA has published its report on the MRL review of tebufenpyrad and has proposed to lower the current MRL in peaches from 0.4 to 0.3 mg/kg. The AU MRL is set at 1 mg/kg.

EFSA – MRL Review – Pyriproxyfen – Important– January 2023
EFSA has published its review of the MRLs for pyriproxyfen. https://efsa.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.2903/j.efsa.2022.7617
The review proposes to lower the MRL in grapes from 0.05 mg/kg to 0.01 mg/kg. The AU MRL is set at 0.02 mg/kg.
EFSA – MRL review of dithianon – Important– January 2023
EFSA has published its report on MRL review of dithianon https://www.efsa.europa.eu/en/efsajournal/pub/7731. The MRLs for apple and pear are proposed to be lowered from 3 mg/kg to 1.5 mg/kg. The NRS assessment is attached.
